OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM

Katherine Schmierer, RN

Executive Director & Founder

Katie is a dedicated Registered Nurse, doula, childbirth educator, and nonprofit founder with more than 25 years of experience in maternal-child health and trauma-informed care. Her career has evolved through complementary roles in pediatric and medical-surgical nursing, specialized doula and childbirth education, and nonprofit leadership. Today, she brings this unique combination of clinical expertise and compassionate vision to the development of trauma-informed residential programs that support mothers, babies, and families on their journey toward healing.

As Founder and Executive Director of Nevaeh Living, Katie is committed to developing long-term, trauma-informed maternity housing and recovery programs for pregnant and postpartum survivors of trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual exploitation. Drawing on her clinical expertise, perinatal support experience, and personal journey as an adoptive mother of four children from challenging backgrounds, she brings both professional knowledge and compassionate insight to the unique needs of mothers and infants on the path to healing.

Katie’s leadership is rooted in clinical excellence, relational healing, family systems, and holistic care. She is dedicated to creating environments where mothers and babies experience safety, dignity, and the opportunity to heal together—laying the foundation for lasting family restoration and generational healing.

Alicia Carter, LMSW

Trauma-Informed Program Designer | Therapist | Healing Environment Strategist & Cofounder

Alicia is a trauma-informed therapist, program designer, and residential environment strategist whose unique career path has prepared her to design healing spaces for vulnerable families. Over the past two decades, her professional journey has unfolded through three complementary chapters: nearly a decade of clinical social work and leadership, nearly a decade of residential renovation and real estate development, and now the integration of both into the design of trauma-informed residential programs.

Today, Alicia brings together more than two decades of clinical, operational, and design experience to create trauma-informed environments where mothers, babies, and families can experience safety, connection, and lasting healing. Her work bridges therapeutic care with intentional program and residential design, helping transform physical spaces into places of restoration and hope.

Alicia’s work bridges clinical expertise, systems thinking, leadership development, and healing-centered design to create environments where individuals and families experience safety, dignity, connection, and lasting healing.
